Rocky Point Engineering provided the mechanical, plumbing and fire suppression design for the new K-8 Elementary School at UBC. The project consisted of the demolition of the majority of the existing school while maintaining the original gymnasium and its unique curved roof, as well as construction of the new school which is currently underway. The new school is designed under the 21st century learning model adopted by the Vancouver School Board (VSB) and will have several unique components within the building which include: (i) a renovated gymnasium; (ii) new Neighborhoods of Learning areas; (iii) new Da Vinci learning studios; (iv) breakout seminar rooms; (v) large common areas; and (vi) grade-specific learning studios.

The new school will be the first school in the province to utilize an active chilled beam mechanical system combined with dedicated outdoor air units, 90% efficient dual core heat recovery, high efficiency boilers and a high efficiency air source heat pump.

This project has been awarded LEED® Gold and we are happy to announce Rocky Point Engineering won Second Place Region XI and BC Chapter Awards for Norma Rose Point School in the New Institutional Building category!
