Grant + Sinclair ArchitectsRocky Point Engineering was retained to provide mechanical design services for James Park Elementary School located in Port Coquitlam, BC for School District #43.
The school features a hybrid natural-mechanical ventilation system allowing shutdown of individual classroom ventilation systems when temperature and carbon dioxide setpoints are attained. Heating / Cooling plant is geothermal, with central water-to-water heat pumps supplemented by condensing boilers for peak winter weather conditions. Heat scavenging from building relief air and solar heat capture for preheating domestic hot water and re-generating ground temperature in the geothermal loop field are also included.
The new school is a $14 Million replacement and features space for a variety of community-based programming in a Neighbourhood Learning Centre and StrongStart Centre. This project is targeting LEED® Gold
