The South Albion Community Centre is a new 22,604 sq. ft. facility that includes a grand hall, community kitchen, gallery, multipurpose/fitness rooms, art room, and child care facility along with public washrooms.
Our team engineered mechanical systems designed for future low-carbon and renewable energy sources, including rooftop photovoltaics as a first step towards net-zero and net-carbon solutions. The building currently includes an air source heat pump to provide low-temperature heating water and reverse cycle cooling water for the building. We provided a high-efficiency condensing boiler with 100% capacity, to generate low-temperature heating water, provide backup heating, and allow for fuel switching between natural gas and electricity as utility rates change. Heat recovery was also provided for all major exhaust air systems, with 70% efficient capture of exhaust air heat. Finally, we incorporated a building automation system with energy-saving sequences of operation, CO2 demand control ventilation, and occupancy sensors to turn off systems when areas of the building are not in use.
