Position: Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Rocky Point Engineering is a highly successful Mechanical Consulting Engineering firm with 8 offices across British Columbia and we are seeking candidates with both education and 10+ years’ experience in fire protection system design.

We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated and talented team players to join our highly successful office in Nanaimo or Langley, BC. The candidates must also be detail oriented and enjoy contributing to the success of the team in a progressive work environment.

We offer a comprehensive salary and benefits package in addition to a flexible partial “work at home” environment to individuals that can demonstration they can operate independently and maintain communication as part of a team.  Salaries in the range of $85k to $100k depending on level of skills and qualifications.

The successful candidate will work with and manage a fire protection design team at various levels of responsibility to deliver successful fire protection design projects to our clients incorporating industry best practices.

  • Design calculations related to fire protection system design.
  • Overseeing of the production of Revit fire protection drawings.
  • Selection and sizing of fire protection equipment.
  • Development and editing of fire protection specifications.
  • Supervision and mentoring of junior staff within the design team.
  • Reviewing fire protection drawings for completeness and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Onsite investigation of existing systems for coordination and design.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the project manager.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • University degree, college/technology diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Systems.
  • 10+ years of Industry experience in fire protection design.
  • Able to read Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical drawings.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet project deadlines.
  • Senior design team leadership experience.
  • Site related fire protection experience at field reviews.
  • Ability to deal with site related construction correspondence such as answering RFI’s and issuing of site instructions.
  • Experience in client management and quality control procedures.
  • Experience in public and private sector project design in various market sectors
