PRINCIPALS AND ASSOCIATES
Richard has over 30 years’ experience in the building services consulting industry. Richard graduated from BCIT in 1981 with a diploma in Building Technology and later obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from UBC in 1988. Over his career, Richard has established strong relationships in a diverse cross-section of the building industry, including the health care, K-12 and post-secondary education, large commercial, residential and recreational sectors. Richard specializes in designing HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems for projects such as schools, universities, colleges, hospitals, community centers, warehouses, airports, fire halls, residential, commercial buildings, arenas, laboratories, police buildings, libraries and office buildings.
Richard has designed numerous buildings to LEED® standards incorporating mechanically innovative strategies including geothermal, solar hot water, active chilled beam technology, dedicated outdoor air units, 90% efficient dual core heat recovery, high-efficiency boilers and high-efficiency air source heat pumps.
Richard joined Rocky Point Engineering in 2010.
Mark joined Rocky Point Engineering in 2010 and has over 20 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer. He has an extensive background in HVAC systems, energy design, plumbing and fire suppression systems.
Mark specializes in design for institutional projects such as hospitals, laboratories, and schools as well as recreational facilities, including pool design. His work on numerous large new health care facilities in the province has been designed to LEED® design criteria.
Mark is involved in detailed and conceptual mechanical design, budgeting, procurement and specifications, preparation and estimations of labour and materials, client negotiations, scheduling, project management, construction administration, and field reviews. Along with being an Engineer of Record, Project Manager, and Principal at Rocky Point, Mark is also the Manager of the Vancouver Office.
Robert Cenedese has been involved in the mechanical engineering consulting industry for over twenty years. Over the course of his career Robert has attained a high level of expertise in the design of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems, and has become a valued Project Manager in the Rocky Point Engineering organization.
Robert's designs are synonymous with adherence to timelines, thorough coordination and client satisfaction, from the initial design stages through to the completion of the construction process. Over the last 5 years Robert has specialized in mechanical renovation projects, and has provided project leadership on many of our school HVAC upgrade projects. Due to his dedication to comprehensive field reviews during the design stage, his projects have been well coordinated, resulting in time and cost efficient installations during construction phase.
Darcy started with Rocky Point Engineering as a Mechanical Designer in February 2011 after finishing his co-op mechanical engineering degree at the University of Victoria. He received LEED® accreditation in 2014 and his P.Eng. license in 2015.
Throughout his time at Rocky Point Engineering he has worked on a range of diverse of projects from small commercial and residential to large commercial, LEED, healthcare, education and industrial projects.
Darcy’s main focus on a project is to deliver a high-quality system that meets all owner requirements while staying on budget to ensure a successful project from start to finish. Optimizing systems of any size is a primary goal that always provides a challenge to ensure the client is receiving the most “bang for their buck.”
Darcy’s involvement in projects include cost estimating, reports and studies, schematic design, detailed design, HVAC load calculations, HVAC design, plumbing design, energy modelling, drafting and 3D modelling, construction administration, construction inspections, and commissioning.
He believes that a system on paper is only as good as its construction and commissioning and that a hands-on approach is paramount to ensure it is constructed and set-up to operate at its maximum potential.
Scott is the Manager of Construction Services at Rocky Point Engineering and has over 20 years of experience in the design of mechanical systems, in addition to construction administration for many diverse projects in British Columbia. His commitment to client care and focus on project quality has enabled him to develop and maintain many highly valued working relationships with owners, clients and contractors throughout the province.
Aaron first entered the consulting field in 1999 as a Mechanical Technologist. In the ensuing years he has worked for mechanical consulting firms in Calgary, Langley and Nanaimo, developing his career through working on numerous hospital, elementary and secondary school, post-secondary, large and small commercial, recreational, industrial and residential projects.
In 2005, Aaron joined Rocky Point Engineering as a Project Manager, continued on to become a Principal in 2011 and currently manages Rocky Point’s Nanaimo Office. He has a wide range of experience with a focus on providing high efficiency yet practical mechanical system designs working in an integrative approach with project teams and fitting within the framework of the client’s economical target and vision for the project.
In recent years Aaron has developed a strong interest in environmental and sustainability issues, and has assisted in moving projects toward greater sustainable design practices. He became a LEED accredited professional in 2007 and has designed and participated in overseeing construction of mechanical systems incorporating hybrid mechanical-natural ventilation systems, high efficiency heating/cooling plant and terminal unit design with geothermal options, storm water retention and low water consumption buildings. He has personally been involved in the project design of numerous buildings on Vancouver Island that have attained LEED certification.
Cory Langevin is a Mechanical Technologist with over 17 years of experience in Consulting Engineering. Cory has designed mechanical systems for numerous education, healthcare, institutional and commercial building projects. Providing prompt response and attention to detail, Cory strives to ensure all Client objectives are met.
Bob has practiced in the mechanical engineering consulting industry for over 50 years on a vast array of complex projects, but primarily focusing in the healthcare, commercial and educational sectors. He is acclaimed by his clients for contributing a wealth of knowledge to his projects and mentorship that only someone with his years of experience can provide. He consistently demonstrates his commitment to his clients by ensuring that projects are designed and constructed correctly. Bob Alexander joined Rocky Point Engineering in the fall of 2010.
With over 3 decades of experience in the building engineering industry, Mark has specialized in plumbing systems design for the Healthcare, Educational, Institutional, Recreational and Commercial sectors. Currently, his work is focused on mechanical healthcare design that delivers successful projects through traditional methods, the Design Bid/Build process and Public-Private Partnerships P3.
Mark has a continuing passion to ensure that all projects are designed in adherence with each client’s goals and objectives. His approach is rooted in the philosophy that client service is based on responsible design through dialogue and effective leadership.
Mark is a Board Member of the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (CHES).
Kyle Hasenkox attended the University of Victoria and has 16 years of experience designing mechanical systems. Kyle joined Rocky Point in 2011 as a Senior Project Manager before getting appointed Principal in 2014. Kyle has a variety of experience with a focus on high efficiency systems as he tries to incorporate a realistic green approach by finding the most economical and enviro-friendly strategy possible, while working within the client's budget constraints and vision for the project. He believes that sustainability is not just a goal for buildings; it also means creating long term relationships while maintaining a balance that serves; our industry, our community and our lives. He is actively involved with ASHRAE, sitting on the local board, the regional executive and a number of technical committees including Educational Facilities to help advance the industry. He has been awarded an ASHRAE design award, and has worked on a number of LEED projects and commercial projects incorporating heat reclamation.
Mirko has over 20 years of mechanical/energy engineering and project management experience. For 15 years, he provided project management and mechanical engineering services to the former British Columbia Buildings Corporation for a variety of projects throughout the BC Interior. Mirko is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and brings a solid understanding of sustainable energy practices to each project. He is also a Certified Professional (CP) so he is well versed in the interpretation and application of the various parts of the building code and the numerous standards. Mirko joined the Rocky Point Kelowna office in the summer of 2013 and has recently relocated to our Nelson office where he will oversee both Kootenay & Okanagan locations.
Mathieu started his career in 2005 at MechWave Engineering. He moved to BC in 2008 to join Rocky Point Engineering as a designer.
Mathieu specializes in designing HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems for projects such as schools, colleges, universities, community centers, warehouses, residential buildings, commercial buildings, arenas, laboratories, libraries and office buildings.
Mathieu recently completed design of the new Emily Carr University of Art & Design. This is a new LEED Gold $120 million facility which incorporates a district energy system supplemented with heat recovery heat pumps, and active chilled beam technology. His wide range of experience gives him a unique and valuable perspective when he approaches new projects, and his adherence to timelines and thorough coordination has led to consistent client satisfaction.
Garrett is an Associate with Rocky Point Engineering, he obtained his P.Eng in 2018. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and has over 9 years of experience in as a mechanical design engineer and project manager.
Garrett has a strong passion and interest in the application of mechanical systems to create sustainable solutions to improve the lives of the building owners, operators, and users. He enjoys utilizing his knowledge of building systems to develop optimal solutions for the end users/owners of the buildings, a combination of efficiency, functionality, sustainability, & cost.
Garrett started his career working on P3 health care projects in the Okanagan and has since fostered his interest in healthcare and institutional projects. He has led and designed several projects within Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal as well as at UBC including the two largest dust collection systems on campus to comply with new NFPA and WorksafeBC standards.
Garrett believes his coordinated approach of working with others ensures successful projects and client satisfaction.
Ian joined Rocky Point Engineering in 2018. Having graduated from UVic in 2003, Ian brings over 15 years of experience to his clients and adds a wealth of knowledge to his projects.
Ian has extensive experience improving central plants, adding redundancy, and improving energy usage. He has done majour hospital upgrades at Kelowna General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital, and has completed building upgrades to accomodate seismic reinforcement at the Elliott Building and the University Centre at the University of Victoria.
Ian has worked on numerous other projects including commercial, residential, institutional, recreational, district systems, and industrial facilities. Ian's designs are oftern inspired by disparate but analogous solutions and he is exceptionally good at troubleshooting issues.
Matthew has over 9 years of mechanical engineering and project management experience. He joined Rocky Point Engineering in 2015 after graduating as a Mechanical Engineer at UBC in Kelowna in 2014. Matthew has been involved in design engineering, as well as a project manager on many different types of projects including wineries, tasting centres, boiler upgrades, tenant improvements, apartment buildings, mixed use buildings, kitchens, townhouses and hospital renovations.
Matthew has a strong interest in making mechanical systems as streamlined as possible, ensuring the systems are easier to maintain and more cost effective. He has a high attention to detail and works with client to achieve their vision for the project.
Kevin started his Engineering Consulting career in 2000 as a Technologist and draftsperson. His attention to detail and client engagement further led him to excel in project management, business operations and staff managment. He returned to school in order to obtain his Professional Engineering degree and joined Rocky Point Engineering in 2020.
Kevin has completed a wide variety of building projects including those in commercial, educational, office, institutional, healthcare, laboratory, data centre and institutional sectors. However, his focus over the past 15 years has been with Post Secondary Education institutions, working closely with Campus Planning & Development Maintenance Personnel.
Chad joined RPE after graduating from Thompson Rivers University in BC with a Diploma of Technology in 2011. He just recently relocated to our Kamloops office after spending the last 11 years in our Langley location where his education and experience have enabled him to complete projects both on time and with a high level of detail.
Chad alongside VP Cory Langevin, will be designing the new state of the art Kamloops Performing Arts Centre. Chad believes in maintaining traditional workplace values - where ethics, honesty, dedication and client care are placed above all else.
Chad is currently a member of the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC and has been involved in the design of HVAC and plumbing systems for various residential and commercial projects, from conceptual development through to completion of construction
Baxter has been with Rocky Point Engineering since 2020. He has worked in the Mechanical Consulting business for 35+ years and is well respected in the industry for his knowledge and expertise in Tenant Improvement and Special Projects.
Baxter has undertaken and led many designs for renovation type and new build projects in the civic, commercial, retail and office sectors, as well as, healthcare, special use projects, educational and light industrial.
